Spring Equinox

Once again we find ourselves at the balancing point of day and night; of light and darkness.

The sunshine and longer days bring with it the joy in observing those first nuances of colour as flower blossoms start to speckle the earth. Those first signs of new life budding on the trees and the sights and sounds of animals enlivened with new energy and new life.

As we appreciate the cycle of rebirth all around us it reminds us of our own resilience; and of that which we all innately know.
There are cycles for everything in this life.

As our own energy shifts with the seasons and we reach this point of renewal it can be good to reflect on the shadow parts of our journey as well.

We’re reminded how important it is at this apex of transition to work with both light and dark. To recognize there is a place and purpose for both, for without it we cannot truly learn. What lessons did we uncover as we moved through the cold and grey? How did we grow, and how do we have yet to? What are our aspirations and have they changed? How can we care for ourselves and others even better than before?

Learning from these reflections we gaze forward toward inviting in new beginnings. It is the time to welcome new ideas, aspirations, goals, and a renewed sense of self. This is the time for planting seeds, but as with any garden we must learn the best ways to tend to and nurture its growth. As the seasonal scales tip in the direction of Spring,  the feeling of hopefulness and rejuvenation become prominent in the air and can aid us on our path of expansion.

It is up to us if we chose to feel its energetic pull.

Simple Practices and ways to celebrate:

Planting Seeds:

A wonderfully simple yet fruitful way of honouring Ostara (The Spring Equinox) is by setting plans into motion for your Spring garden. Whether it be seasonal flowers, tree or bush seedlings or herbs for your culinary masterpieces; starting your seed germination or planting in alignment with this day is a practical and rewarding way to work with the present energies and themes of fertility, abundance and renewal.

* A cool thing to keep in mind is that medicinally, and energetically different plants hold different properties that can be used as powerful correspondences. Therefore herbs with certain Ayurvedic and/ or remedial qualities used in teas, syrups, salves, tonics or cooking can be planted and charged with specific intentions from their preliminary stage, to the point of their harvest and use.
Or for a more direct way of putting it, from seed to soup!

A few short examples of this are:

Basil- Healing( Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, Antiviral properties), mood lifting, Anti-Inflamatory.

Lemon Balm-Stress and anxiety relief, sleep aid, digestive aid, relief of pain and bloating from indegestion, emotional healing and balance

Rosemary- Beneficial for cognitive function, immune booster, improve blood circulation, Purifying, Protective.

Etc.

Take a walk in Nature:

A great way to not only ground yourself, boost your energy, liven the senses and pay respect to the coming of Spring is to simply surround yourself with all that is awakening. Bundle up if you need and take a walk in the outdoors, observing as you go the transformations happening all around you.

Take note of the resilience of nature, of the buzz in the air. If you’re able, find a quiet spot to sit on the earth, a rock, tree, or bench and close your eyes. Listen to the sounds of mother nature around you.

If it calls to you, take a moment to meditate in stillness or write about your experience.

Manifestation Writing Excercise:

Take the time to reflect on all that you have accomplished over the last 6 months. Of where you are now, and of what you are proud of.
It’s important to celebrate those achievements no matter how big or small. Ask yourself the following for instance:

  • What is one thing I am most proud of from the last 6 months to now?

  • Is there anything I would like to improve on?

  • What are my top 3 goals?

  • What can I do to better my chance of success?

  • How can I find and sustain motivation?

Visualize your goals and aspirations and the seeds you can ( metaphorically) begin to start planting to achieve them. Write a journal/ diary entry to yourself dated 6 months from now, as you are about to enter the cold months ahead and begin your time of deep reflection. Write to yourself as if you have already accomplished all that you have set out to, adding in as much detail as you desire. Where are you, how do you feel, how did you come to accomplish all you have?

Our bodies, hearts and souls know intuitively what is meant for us; all we have to do is stop to listen and allow ourselves the tools and room to flourish.

Where our intention goes energy flows.
